Pancake? What pancake? |
Most weekends are filled with tasks, to-do lists and a never-ending feeling of trying to catch up. But every once in a great while, if you are lucky, you'll get a completely unstructured and guilt-free Sunday afternoon. And if you are doubly-lucky, it includes chocolate chip pancakes.
This Sunday didn't start off all that well--a 4:30 wake-up call that could not be ignored. But it got better shortly, after a bottle, some blocks, a few books and one diaper change later, Olive went back to sleep. This allowed me to catch up on some writing that was long overdue, so it was a blessing in disguise. Things really began to look up when Anne woke up and decided to make chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast. Everyone was pretty happy and Olive's first taste of pancakes (no chocolate chips for her) was memorable. Rarely has she eaten anything so quickly and with such focused attention.
After another nap, including one for me, and a lot more playtime, the day ended with a quick hike on a new trail right here in town. It passes by an old mill site and has some impressive stonework. We cannot wait to see it in the spring.
